Recent activities at the Edge Hotel School
Students in their final year at the Edge Hotel School undertake a group consultancy project that is commissioned by senior industrialist to review and solve a specific issue within their operation. This is a major piece of work and contributes to their final degree classification.
These quotes demonstrate the value these projects can bring to the industry and how they often challenge current thinking:
"The consultancy project we undertook with the Edge Hotel School students provided some really insightful management information and challenged our current thinking on a key area of the business which will result in us making some changes and moving our business forward. I would thoroughly recommend the process to any Hotelier."
Danny Pecorelli, Managing Director, Exclusive Hotels and Venues
"I commissioned a consultancy project with a team of Edge Hotel School students to design a social media campaign for the launch of a new 5* hotel in London. Throughout the process I was very impressed with their professionalism and hard work and was astonished at the quality of their recommendations, which was on par, if not better, than professional services we have employed in the past.”
Michael Voigt - General Manager, L'Oscar Hotel London
James - Graduated 2015, Butler and in room dining coordinator at the Savoy, London
“A few days after completing my Hotel Management degree in September 2015 I joined The Dorchester as Chef du Rang at The Promenade. I am now the Butler and In-room Dining Coordinator at The Savoy.
My advice for future and current Edge Hotel School students would be to go for everything - you won't get anywhere unless you put yourself out there - have confidence in yourself and your skills. The Edge Hotel School has helped me in my career by preparing me for interviews - the Professional Performance Assessments and reflective statements help you to highlight your strengths and 'wow factor' stories which helps massively in interviews. The experience really makes you stand out against the competition.”
Charlotte – Graduated 2015, Project Manager, BaxterStory
"After completing a placement at prestigious contract caterer BaxterStorey during a break from my studies I knew I wanted to work there when I finished the course. I started in Canary Wharf, London, working as a Graduate Manager. Initially I took part in a nine-month training period which introduced me to various areas of the business and led to the position I am in now as Project Manager.
Since joining the Edge Hotel School in 2013, I have gained so much more confidence and I have learnt that I have to go out and get things myself. Being at the Edge Hotel School helped me realise that I wanted to work in catering management."
Luke - Graduated 2014, Guest Relations Manager, Marriot Sydney Harbour, Australia
“I finished my Hotel Management degree at the Edge Hotel School in July 2014 and was over the moon after going straight into employment as assistant Executive Lounge Manager at London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. After two years there I moved onto another Marriott hotel - the Sydney Harbour in Australia, where I am now the Guest Relations Manager.
My degree course at the Edge Hotel School changed the way I look at things, I have so much knowledge that I am now putting to good use.
My advice to future and current students at the Edge Hotel School would be to use your time well. Take every opportunity you are offered, go to networking events, and take up work experience. I did three weeks work experience at London Marriott Hotel County Hall and it led to me being offered this post.”
